UZSI Has New Website

10. 12. 2007  | ÚZSI

The Office for Foreign Relations and Information's website offers new graphics, adjusted structure and extended contents. It has been the third version of the site since 2002, when UZSI started to communicate with the general public in this way.

Today few would dispute that an intelligence service should have its internet presentation. And it was not long ago that the first websites of intelligence, i.e. secret services were regarded as something inappropriate. This applied even to the period when UZSI joined those intelligence services that had their own internet sites. Nevertheless, intelligence services like any other entities currently do not consider the question whether to be or not to be on the internet, but the question of how to approach their presence on the internet so as it would meet the increasing requirements of their website's visitors, in terms of the graphics, the offer of new opportunities for users as well as the contents of the website. UZSI did its best to satisfy these criteria in the case of each of all three versions of its website as they developed in the periods when they were released, i.e. in 2002, 2005 and 2007.

The latest version of the website reflects the experience acquired from the operation of UZSI's other internet project - I-badatelna, existing since 2006. Through this unique tool, tens of thousands of visitors have used the opportunity to study the digitalised archival documents from the era of the intelligence service of communist Czechoslovakia.

Thus the new website of UZSI is another part of the deliberate process of opening itself to the public, which is an essential feature of a modern intelligence service. The process does not influence the service's secrecy in any way. The services only openly state why and what they have to keep secret. The public has the right to get this information as well as everything that the intelligence service can or even must reveal about itself or its activity. Hence UZSI's new internet site, which is user-friendlier and has new graphics, is a more modern way of expressing the idea that UZSI has promoted for many years.
